PROJECT 1
(DESIGN STUDIO VI)
TOUCHSTONE-
the evo
The touchstone project is a point of 'expression' to any design insights relating back to the site forces, leading to design possibilities - a touchstone approach.

The requirements : An object/model at a 200mm x 200mm base with a write up.

The search of design possibilities can be achieved through :

Natural phenomena : weathering, textures, shadows, gradient, time, sounds, heat and etc.
Human / urban intervention : hustle and bustle, events, history and etc.

The intention of 'The Evo' project is to capture the process of progression in the selected site ,which is Wangsa Maju. Initiated from a shared land with Setapak, Wangsa Maju eventually developed into an individual township with mixed developments.

The beginning : Initiated with small-scaled buildings. Expressed through the minscule sized pieces to depict the early developments surrounding the site.

The intermediate : At this stage, the township was build with mixed developments to cater the increasing population. In 'The Evo' project, I conveyed it in a way of combining mid-sized and small sized pieces. The pieces represent the middle stage of progression of the township.

The current : At the current stage, number of high rises, commercial buildings are evolving well to provide a living city for the people. I expressed the stage through the linear and narrow shaped pieces to represent the 'current' lifestyle of the society.

As an overall outlook, all the components of 'The Evo' are symbolized using linear elements, which indirectly denotes that the new township is mostly developed with modernistic style either early modernism, late modernism or post modernism. Throughout the site, abundance of linear and grid like patterns are eminent.

Through this project, I had learned that the importance to understand the pattern and growth of the certain township before proposing a distinct type of buildings in that area. It will affect the whole outlook of the township, if the proposed building is out of the context. A great understanding of the historical background of the site will allow us to design up to the mark and fullfill the urban context expectations.
