Adaptive reuse with revolutionised elements - urban area to expand while retaining the unique qualities of buildings and the surrounding spaces. The Young Centre intention was to anchor the Distillery District as a cultural destination. The Centre combines teaching and live performance in the same facility. The design approach, is the ‘raw warm industrial’ aesthetic. Due to the respect to the urban and historical fabric .

The facade treatment remains from the Gooderham and Worts Whiskey Distillery era.
-
The windows were originally from the distillery era. Remaining the historical context of the design into newly remeniscide version of the PAC.
-
The fixed glass windows, at the entrance and frontal part of the building, allows the penetration of light to the interior.

-
A void feel.
SECTION

-
Neo-primitive Douglas fir timber trusses that span the historic bearing walls.
-
The theatre is supported with the steel structure large span. To support the weight load from the connecting beams.
-
Cost-effective construction and to sustainable approach, light-weight structural system.
SPATIAL STUDY

-
ANALYSIS : The usage of the bricks gives a sense of warm feel for the visitors to enter the building (a welcoming point) with the warm lighting.
-
ANALYSIS : The timber usage mixture with the red bricks improvises the overall building outlook. A modernist touch in contrast to the urban fabric.
-
ANALYSIS : The availability of windows at the entrance point allows the building to have a contrast between solid and void. Creating a permeability sense of place

-
ANALYSIS : The exposed ceiling gives a vibe of raw industrial feel. To inherit the original sense of place. (originality)
-
ANALYSIS : The exposed brick walls, enhances the ambience. A warm mood tonal value to the spaces.
-
ANALYSIS : The floor material is chosen to be easily cleaned and to match the wall and ceiling finishes.

-
Balcony seating - Enables more audience inside the auditorium according to the acoustic needs.
-
Sloped floors - With level terraces for each row of seating, help provide the proper sightlines from the audience to the stage.
-
Glossy wood flooring -floor finish that compliments staging and lighting well. A low to medium gloss allows the lighting to pop off the stage floor, adding depth and saturation to the look and prevent echos.
SUSTAINABILITY

-
The microclimate - 4 season country with minimal rainfall and humidity.
-
Winter (Mid- nov to march) reaching a min temperature of -8 degree celsius.
-
Spring (April - May) reaching to 19 degree celsius.
-
Summer (June - September) reaching to 27 degree celsius in July.
-
Fall (Mid- september - Mid- nov) reaching as low as 9 degree celsius.
-
Minimal openings were analysed throughout the design, windows are located towards the north and south and opening from the east side as well.
